The next thing that will be 3D printed is various types of clothes. Designers came up with a method of 3D printing personal clothes. Chinese designer Zhang Hongyu began printing a collection of swimming suits during Shanghai Fashion Week 2014. He used silicon for the 3D printed swimming suits. He also noted that with 3D printers designers can used delicate materials thanks to which the garments feel soft.
Scientists are planning that in the future consumers will have their bodies scanned, sent to the processing centre and the suits will be 3D printed according to the body shape. The price of the method has dropped considerably recently, which enabled the designers create their own models and products. The year of 2011 is renowned for the introduction of the world’s first totally 3D printed bikini. It was displayed during at Continuum Fashion by designer Mary Huang. This new method of producing garments is much cheaper and designers can use it in their experiments with small batches and sell them. Zhang explains that this swimsuit is more than a piece of garment, because it makes people who wear it feel happier, more comfortable and charming. Swimming and beach culture have become a part of our life, so people who experience this culture need to feel relaxed.
